[Updated: Jan 14] Facebook (FB) Messenger & Instagram still down for some after massive outage
Scroll sown for new updates that have been added at the end of the article
Original story (Sept 01,2018) follows:
The Facebook Messenger app suffered a massive outage today. Given the extreme popularity of the application, a very large number of users were affected. Following are some of the tweets from users after they found the app was down.
If your Facebook messenger is down, log in to Facebook on your PC (or use the browser on mobile) and then like something. You should then get a prompt for a captcha
Complete that and your messenger will be up and running again!
(This doesn't work on the FB app!)

A large number of reports said only the app was down, meaning users could still access the service through other platforms like desktop. However, given the fact that a large majority of users likes to chat on the go, the problem quickly became a big deal.
While the worst seems to be over, there are still reports about the service not being accessible. However, it’s reasonable to assume these are just the final wave of users, for whom the problem will get resolved shortly.
In case the problem persists for long, do let us know by dropping a comment below. We’ll update the story accordingly.
Update 1 (October 30)
Going by reports proliferating on Twitter, Facebook Messenger is encountering issues as of writing this. The service is down and not working for many.
Users are taking to social media platforms to vent their frustration:
Matter of fact, both Facebook and Instagram are reportedly down in various parts of the globe as well. Looks like Europe is at the center of the outage.
Apart from Europe, Instagram is taking a massive hit in the entire east coast of the USA.
Update 2 (Nov 28)
Since Facebook and Instagram seem to not be working thought more people would be over here so have a wonderful day with loved ones today! #instagramdown #facebookdown
#facebookdown + #instagramdown 😴
