New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on December 3, 2019) follows:

WhatsApp, which is now owned by Facebook, is undoubtedly the king of instant messaging today. True, it might not boast of the most innovative features compared to, say, Signal or even Telegram but by sheer numbers, WhatsApp is a major player.

The messaging solution is available on various platforms including iOS, Android and web-based clients for Mac, Windows and even Linux.

However, WhatsApp users on OnePlus’ latest devices, the OnePlus 7T and the OnePlus 7T Pro, have been experiencing a bunch of weird issues after updating to the latest version of OxygenOS.

These issues have been reported by dozens of OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro owners across various forums online. One of the issues that cut across most of the users running the latest update has to do with sending images on WhatsApp. Symptoms are unable to select photos or having WhatsApp freeze while sharing.

In WhatsApp, While selecting images to send, the app is misbehaving. Images are not selected and the app doesn’t respond. This issue temporary resolves with a restart of the phone and after some time, it repeats.

A few users have had some success by restarting their devices but even that proves to be a temporary fix as the issues more or less persist soon after the reboot.

I can’t share images on WhatsApp in my OnePlus7t. after restart, it works normal but after that, it seems the same issue. is OnePlus7t’s problem or WhatsApp bug ??

Many of the issues being expressed by these OnePlus 7T users revolve around trying to send media/images on WhatsApp. However, regular OnePlus 7/7 Pro seems to be unaffected.

It could be possible that the problem has its origin inside WhatsApp codebase, but the reports are coming mostly from OnePlus 7T (and some 7T Pro) owners. In fact, the volume of reports would be much larger if the app is causing the anomaly.

The situation leads us to believe it is a bug from OnePlus’ end. And things are getting worse as explained by one user on the OnePlus Forum;

It again happens..
But now it is worse than before, when sharing images directly from gallery, WhatsApp crashed and worst part is OnePlus launcher wasn’t responding and finally UI wasn’t responding and phone hanged. Can you believe this, The OnePlus 7T, the flagship killer hanged. I had to force restart my device in order to make my phone work again.

Day by day, this issue isn’t getting resolved rather its getting even more worse.

All things considered, it is still unclear what is the root cause behind the glitch. None of the two companies has issued a statement regarding the same.

Update 1 (February 17)

More devices have been reported to be facing the same issue. We have seen OnePlus 6T users, Google Pixel 4 and even users of the original Google Pixel XL.

NOTE: We will keep an eye on this issue and update accordingly when a solution for this annoying bug is created. To keep tabs with the same, stay tuned to our dedicated OnePlus section for much more coverage on the OEM.
