Black Shark 2 November update brings an older security patch, fixes YouTube display bug, & more
In early October, the Black Shark 2 picked up a huge software update that tagged along the support for Digital Wellbeing, GameDock version 4.0, and a flurry of bug fixes and performance optimizations.
As part of this update, the Black Shark 2 also got a new security update for the month of August, which was a rather dated security patch level for a device of its standards. A newer September patch would have done the trick, but hey, I don’t make the rules around here.
In mid-October, the Xiaomi-backed OEM started recruiting beta testers to try the new JoyUI 11 update on their Black Shark 2 units. Although the name is different, you should end up with more of the same features found in MIUI 11 by Xiaomi.
As you continue waiting for the stable JoyUI 11 to arrive, there is a new Black Shark 2 software update rolling out with a newer security patch and even more performance improvements and bug fixes for the stable channel.
Just so you know, the Black Shark 2 is optimized/packaged differently based on the regions it is sold in and as a result, you also get different firmware updates for the respective regions.
Keeping this in mind, those coming from version SKYW1909192OS01MP4 will be upgraded to version SKYW1911121OS00MP5 while units currently installed with version SKYW1909192OS00MP4 will be upgraded to version SKYW1911010OS00MP5.
In addition to the new October security patch, the incoming Black Shark 2 November OTA update also fixes issues with displaying content on YouTube dark pages, ringtone for incoming calls, GameDock sliding out, and more, as shared below:
1. Update Google Security Patch to 2019-10-05
3. Addressed the display problem on YouTube dark pages
4. Addressed a probability problem that the incoming call has no ringtone
5. Addressed a probability problem that Gamedock can’t slide out
5. Optimized network performance
6. Optimized system stability
Being an OTA update, the rollout is staged, meaning some Black Shark 2 units will receive the download notification ahead of others. If this happens, don’t freak out. That’s just how OTA updates work. You should receive it very soon.
