[Official confirmation] OnePlus 7 Pro 5G Android 10 update timeline hinted by company exec

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (from October 28, 2019) follows:

Gone are the days you had to shell out a hefty amount to get your hands on a bleeding edge smartphone. You can now bag a phone with a flagship processor and impressive specifications at an affordable price, thanks to OnePlus for initiating the trend.

The Shenzhen-based OEM debuted with OnePlus One. It has taken the market by storm because of the extreme specs to price ratio. Even though the second generation disappointed the users a bit, the brand regained the lost charm with OnePlus 3.

Around six months after launching OnePlus 3, they came up with a ‘T’ edition. And, they haven’t missed out on the ‘T’ version ever since. By the time OnePlus 7 hit the market, a ‘Pro’ variant surfaced alongside with it. To add sheer pleasure to the customers, a 5G edition also came to light.

In case you happen to be a OnePlus 7 Pro 5G user, you know the update schedule is pretty much messed up. They are lagging behind the regular variant for OTA overhauls. Take Android 10 for example. It is yet to reach OnePlus 7 Pro 5G units.

You know the standard version got the update already. About a month ago, A OnePlus staff member has listed the devices, eligible to receive Android 10 firmware. As you can see in the image below, it ranges from OnePlus 3 to OnePlus 7 Pro 5G.

From a neutral standpoint, one should say the last two must receive Android 10 first, given the age and specifications. Wait, what! The regular OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro already got updated to the latest OS. And, 5G unit users are still waiting in the queue.

OnePlus used to come on top in the OTA affairs. However, with this particular incident, they have found their way out from the favourite list of many. While the users were relentlessly wandering around to get an official statement, a OnePlus staff has finally broke the news.

Those who use OnePlus 7 Pro 5G on EE will receive Android 10 by Q1 2020. There are no wordings about units on Elisa or Sprint, though. Provided Sprint has appeared in the list of eligible devices, we can surely say it’ll come.

Hi all, we plan to release the Android 10 update for the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G EE in Q1, 2020.

Sprint users may see a delay in the OTA delivery because their units are in a separate update channel. Owing to the removal of Local Update option by the carrier, you have got no choice other than waiting for the notification to flash on the screen.

      Update 1 (November 13)

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has officially confirmed the timeline (Q1 2020) on the OnePlus forum.

Based on the current R&D progress and compatibility with various partners, we’re expecting to launch the Android 10 system update for OnePlus 7 Pro 5G in the first quarter of 2020.
