OnePlus first rolled out Android 10 stable update nearly a month ago. This was directed at the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, leaving behind the OnePlus 6T that got admitted into the early Android Q beta program in May 2019.

Early adopters of the OS have had a share of their own issues that OnePlus keeps addressing with subsequent OxygenOS updates, something that should keep owners of OnePlus 6 and 6T pretty much satisfied as they should get an OxygenOS 10 version with most of these kinks ironed out.

Even though OnePlus 5 and 5T are also in line to receive their third major OS upgrade to Android 10, OnePlus has been keen to note that they won’t be in any hurry to release the OS update.

The company has already revealed its plans, pushing the OnePlus 5/5T Android 10 update to Q2 2020. For comparison purposes, the Pie update started rolling out to OnePlus 3 and 3T in May 2019.

That’s a long way to go for OnePlus 5 and 5T owners, but at least they have something to look forward to unlike those using the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8. Even better is that OnePlus is committed to keep refreshing the devices regularly with new software updates until Android 10 arrives.

In one of these updates that is now rolling out to the OnePlus 5 duo, a new October security patch has been included. The patched firmware also tags along a fix for the extended screenshots issue that some units have been experiencing alongside the usual bug fixes.

For a software update that only brings a new security patch, one major bug fix, and general bug fixes, the 374MB that the incoming OTA weighs could imply more is part of the update than what is on paper. So make sure you grab the update once the notification shows up on your end.

Considering their age, monthly security updates are becoming hard to come by for OnePlus 5 and 5T. The last time the duo got a new patch was one that brought the August patch. The latest brings October patches, meaning September patches were skipped, but surely bundled with October patches.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
