Samsung is already rolling out the latest October 2019 security patches to a couple or so devices in the budget segment. The Galaxy A50 got it first before being joined by the Galaxy A30 and the Android Go-powered Galaxy J2 Core, a surprise package.

It isn’t the first time a Samsung budget phone is receiving the latest security patch ahead of, say, the Galaxy S10 or even the Galaxy Note 9 for that matter. Samsung does this from time to time, perhaps to minimize the cost of damages should anything go wrong with the initial rollout.

While Samsung might be doing a great job getting these software updates ready on time for the carrier-unlocked devices, those purchased through carriers are always lagging behind when it comes to receiving the same updates.

The changelog only mentions camera performance improvements, but one Redditor who has received it says it also improves battery life and fixes overheating issues when playing videos, so be sure to grab the update if you’ve experienced any of these issues on your Galaxy Note 9 prior to this update.

Well read in another post that there was a problem with heat management….and that was causing a battery drain issue…I noticed my device was getting hot after videos ect. This update is meant to fix that and a telephoto lense problem that caused waves lines on screen and actual vibrations on back of device….so far all these issues seemed to have improved for me.

The same software version is rolling out to the O2 variant of the Note 9 and also carries the same changes and improvements as its Three UK counterpart. Unlike Three that has just started rolling out the update, though, the O2 update has been available since last week.

Also receiving a new September security update are the dual-SIM variants of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The firmware is arriving on the former as version G950FXXS5DSI1 on the former and version G955FXXS5DSI1 on the latter.

The firmware is available in multiple markets across Europe, Asia, and Africa where these models are sold.

Note that the new software updates are arriving over the air, meaning it may take several days before your unit gets the download notification. Don’t freak out because that is just how OTA updates work. Your turn to grab the update should be right ahead.

Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
