Samsung is not known for looking over its older generation smartphones hanging in its portfolio. Samsung is always known as a company that is more interested in future smartphones than, its older ones. Besides, this has been the main reason for receiving so much flak from its users.
However, since the beginning of the year, Samsung is trying really hard to change the perceptions of the people towards the company. This year it has rolled out various security as well as firmware updates for older generation smartphones as well.
No wonder it has been quite a busy year for the company as they came up with the M-Series smartphones that target the budget and the mid-range segment. They also revamped the Galaxy A-series, with the new addition to the lineup and new innovative designs (A80’s rotating camera module).
Also, if we look at the Android security update cycle plan of Samsung, we could see that there are a lot of older generation smartphones kept in the loop for receiving timely updates. Moreover, the company has also been one of the top brands under the Android version share for top 10 manufacturers for Q3 2018-Q2 2019 category according to a report by Counterpoint Research:
Moreover, according to research by IDC (International Data Corporation), Samsung saw good growth in terms of mobile shipments for Q2 of 2019 as compared to Q2 of 2018.
Now, this is what we expect from a bug smartphone manufacturer that, it covers all its bases before moving forward. And in line with this, Samsung has rolled out new updates for the Galaxy J7 Prime 2 and Galaxy S7/S7 Edge devices. The update brings in the latest September 2019 security patch for both the devices.
However, the update for the Galaxy J7 Prime 2 also brings in a new app called the ShareChat as well. Well, this is another added bloatware on the device but, that is what you get with the update. The update on the J7 Prime carries the version number G611FFDDU1CSI1/ G611FFODI1CSI1/ G611FFDDU1XSH4 and weighs 324.26MB in size.

Also, note that with this update the security patch level bumps up from June (CSF2) to September (CSI1) 2019 which is pretty interesting to see. However, when we checked the official tracker, the update was not reflected on the website.
Now, talking about the update received on the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge devices, the update is purely incremental in nature and brings in the September patch. The update carries the build number ESIS. The last update that the device received was in August where it was served the August security update.
Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge is placed under the Current Models for Quarterly Security Updates in Samsung’s Android security plan.
