Ahead of MIUI 11 launch, Xiaomi Mi 8 & Mi MIX 2S September security update start rolling out (Download links inside)

Xiaomi fans are anxiously waiting for the upcoming September 24 event, where the Chinese OEM will unveil the next generation Mi MIX Alpha along with Mi 9 Pro 5G. Not only that, the company chose the same occasion to debut the 11th iteration of their highly popular skin, MIUI.

Oh, and a new range of TVs as well!

PiunikaWeb readers should recall the incident regarding the accidental rollout of MIUI 11 builds for a handful of Mi and Redmi branded phones. The initial leaked build contained nothing but cosmetic changes here and there, but the second one was literally massive!

Talking about Mi MIX 2S, the phone is stuck with July security patch for a while. The Chinese version of MIUI did bring August patches via MIUI V10.3.6.0 update, but it is not easy to cross-flash the China build on top of the international firmware.

Worry not, as Xiaomi is gradually pushing the September patchset for global Mi MIX 2S units. The software updates comes in the form of MIUI 10.3.6.0 (same as the last Chinese build). The size of the incremental update is slightly larger than 300 MB.

Interestingly, owners of Mi 8 are going though a similar series of events. The 2018’s flagship from Xiaomi received July security patch during the first half of August. The OEM also delivered a fix related to Mi Cloud syncing with the same OTA.

Call it a coincidence, but MIUI 10.3.6.0 update for Chinese Mi 8 units brought August patches – just like Mi MIX 2S. Due to the striking similarities between the occasions, we decided to dig a little. And voila! The September patch of international Mi 8 is ready as well!

This time, the versioning sequence breaks. The new global update is tagged with the version number of MIUI 10.3.5.0 and rolling out as a 277 MB incremental OTA. Nevertheless, you can download the full package from the following section right away.
