In markets other than China and India, the Redmi K20 Pro goes by the name Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro. These two are identical but for their names and perhaps the bands needed to support networks in various regions, but the major difference is the installed firmware version out of the box.

Besides the unusual value for money the Mi 9T Pro offers, the device was also among the first to receive the update to Android 10 stable when the OS started rolling out earlier this month. However, this only affected select Chinese variants.

It was initially thought that the Indian variant was also among the devices receiving Android 10 OTA on the first day of availability. However, it later turned out this was a false alarm and instead, the available ROM is for limited beta testing.

In order to install the available Android 10 stable recovery ROM (linked here) on your Indian variant, you need an authorized Xiaomi beta testing account, else, the ROM won’t work on your device.

To date, the Redmi K20 Pro has yet to begin receiving the stable version of Android 10 not just in India, but also in other markets where the device goes by the name Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro.

As you wait for the update to stable Android 10 on your Mi 9T Pro, a new OTA is arriving on the global and Russian variants of the handset with an updated August 2019 security patch. This isn’t the latest patch available, BTW, but it’s better than nothing right?

Updated Android Security Patch to August 2019. Increased system security.

The global Mi 9T Pro is receiving the new update as MIUI 10.3.2.0.PFKMIXM while the Russian unit is receiving an update to MIUI 10.3.2.0.PFKRUXM. Both updates are quite heavy weighing in at over 520MB, so there should be more than the new patch level.

Whether this is the last Mi 9T Pro software update before the stable version of Android 10 arrives remains to be seen, but we do hope that will be the case. Granted, the stable version should arrive somewhere in October 2019.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
