Motorola Moto G7 Power August security update arrives

Motorola, which is now owned by Lenovo, is finding it difficult to sustain in this competitive market. After all, Chinese OEMs like Xiaomi, Oppo, Honor, Vivo, etc. have captured the mid-range and budget segment.

Also, after the take-over by Lenovo, Motorola has not been able to regain the position in the market which it used to have previously. You can blame it on either lack of innovation as well as the lack of new smartphones.

Besides, you could see that the company does not release or launch many smartphones frequently. But, surprisingly in a report by Counterpoint technology, Lenovo has been ranked 5th when it comes to rolling out software or security updates. Well, they’re at least trying to hold up their market.

Talking about updates, it was in the mid of last month when Motorola announced August OTA for Moto G7 Power and other G series devices. Cut to now. Moto G7 Power’s U.S. carrier locked, unlocked as well as the Amazon variant of the device are receiving the promised August security update (not the latest though).

Below is the official change log of this update and the screenshot shared by on the users:

Highlights of this update include:
– Android security updates up to 1 August 2019

Note that this new update only brings in the August security patch for all the three variants of the Motorola Moto G7 Power. The update carries the version number PPOS29.114-134-2. However, the size of the update is not known at yet.

For a quick recap, the Motorola Moto G7 Power is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor which is paired with 4GB of RAM. The device comes with 64GB of internal storage along with a 3000mAh battery with 15W TurboPower charging.

In the display department, it sports a 6.2-inch Full HD+ display. Talking about the camera, it houses a dual camera setup with 12MP + 5MP and also has an 8MP selfie camera in the front which can capture slow-mo videos as well.

Although, the device runs on the Android 9 Pie out of the box, it receives the updates pretty slow. The same is the matter with this update as well, where we are almost halfway done with September, and this device is receiving the August security update.

As Moto G7 Power is available on different carrier variants, the flashing of any update can be risky. But, let us just be happy that at least the August security patch is available for the device which is better than nothing. Here’s hoping the same also gets pushed to other Moto devices soon.

Note that this update will be rolled out in batches and will take some time to reach other regions as well as your device. However, if you want to manually check whether the update is available for your device or not, you can head to Settings>>About Phone>>System Updates.
