The latest Samsung Galaxy A30 software update might not be the most anticipated OTA of the moment, but it does bring with it much-needed security and performance improvements to this budget device.

Unveiled earlier this year, the Galaxy A30 is one of the best in the Galaxy A series, sitting in between the series’ midrange Galaxy A50 and the entry-level Galaxy A10. It packs solid specs that include a 6.4-inch 1080p AMOLED panel and a 4000mAh battery alongside some decent cameras.

Still, this wasn’t enough to qualify the A30 to receive monthly Android security updates, just like many others in the Galaxy A series. Instead, the device only receives quarterly software updates, which should get you excited now that there’s a new version rolling out now.

FYI, the only devices in the Galaxy A series that receive monthly security updates are the Galaxy A5 2017 and the Galaxy A8 2018. None of the other Galaxy A 2017 models or even the Galaxy A8+ 2018 is covered in this segment, as you can see in the screengrab below.

There are multiple variants of the Galaxy A30 with different model numbers depending on the market of availability. Some have the device with model number SM-A305F, SM-A305FN, SM-A305G, or SM-A305GT while others have it as model SM-A305YN or SM-A305N.

The last time Samsung pushed a software update to the Galaxy A30 (SM-A305G) variant was last month. The update, which carried July security patches, arrived as version A305GUBU2ASG2.

As of this writing, this same model, which is sold in South America, is receiving an updated September security patch. The new update is arriving as version A305GUBS2ASH4 and besides the new patch, it also fixes bugs and improves system performance.

If you own any of the other Galaxy A30 variants, the wait is still on. But considering that different regions may receive different patch levels, we cannot guarantee that all other A30 variants will receive September security patches with their next update.

In fact, those using the same Galaxy A30 from India (model number SM-A305F) are now receiving July security patches as version A305FDDU2ASI1. The airborne update weighs in at 124MB, so we don’t expect much on top of the new security patch.

Interestingly, several other devices in the Galaxy A series already got their August security patches, among them Galaxy A60, Galaxy A50 and, even the budget Galaxy A20, so it’s a little strange that Indians are receiving July patches in September.

Also on the receiving end of a new software update is the Samsung Game Launcher app. The incoming update to version 4.1.03.3 weighs 19.14MB and includes a fix for the bug that force-closed the Game Launcher continuously, among other improvements.

These updates are available over the air, which means immediate access may vary across the board depending on your region, so wait up patiently for the download notification to arrive.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem.
