Latest Honor 20 Pro software update bundles August security patch & various improvements

The ‘Pro’ moniker is a go-to choice for gadget makers to distinguish between the higher specced variant and the base model. Be it Apple or OnePlus, we can see the iPad Pro or OnePlus 7 Pro dominating the industry as people tend to opt for the ‘latest-and-greatest’ offerings.

The first 5G phone from OnePlus is built on top of OnePlus 7 Pro

The device portfolio of Huawei (and Honor) contains tons of such ‘Pro’ models. In most of the cases, the OEM installs extra camera sensor or add fast charging support to the top-end model but the base platform remains same.

The Chinese OEM recently released such a ‘Pro’ variant in multiple countries. Dubbed as Honor 20 Pro, the phone sports a slightly bigger battery (4,000 versus 3,750 mAh) and a dedicated telephoto sensor compared to the regular Honor 20.

However, the selfie camera module is exactly same in them – a 0.8µm 32 MP sensor residing under the punch hole display. Talking about the camera, a recently released update for Honor 20 brought plenty of improvements in the front camera HDR video shooting.

The update (build number also bundled August 2019 security patchset. I know what our readers are thinking at this moment – Honor 20 Pro is also receiving a similar software update across several regions.

The OTA ( also serves the role of the day-one patch in some regions like France, as it significantly bumps the factory installed version ( The size of the incremental package is less than 400 MB, similar to the case of Honor 20.

You may be astonished by looking at the similarities between the changelogs, but let me remind you – both Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro are built on same foundation. As a consequence, the latter is also getting August security patches as well as HDR video recording enhancements.

The phone duo are scheduled to get Android 10 based Magic UI 3/EMUI 10 in the following months. The company already kickstarted the public beta of EMUI 10 for Huawei P30/P30 Pro earlier today, so expect the same treatment for Honor 20/20 Pro real soon.
