Releasing security patches for a 3 year old phone – sounds awesome! But neglecting the device with the most cutting edge tech with flagship configs – guess that’s not cool! Unfortunately that is the exact scenario right now with OnePlus.

OxygenOS 9.0.5 update brings August security patches to OnePlus 3/3T

As a part of the recent OTA binge, the Shenzhen based OEM started to distribute August patches to their current lineup as well as legacy devices. However, the 5G variant of OnePlus 7 Pro is kept aside for some unknown reasons.

Due to limited 5G network coverage, one can’t buy OnePlus 7 Pro right out of brick-and-mortar shops and/or online portal of OnePlus itself. Wireless carriers like EE in UK and Elisa in Finland are currently selling the phone as they already set up 5G networks in multiple regions.

OnePlus 7 Pro on Elisa comes with OxygenOS 9.5.6 out of the box which is on not available for EE users

The collaboration is completely different from the T-Mobile deal in USA. OnePlus prepared a customized edition of the regular OnePlus 7 Pro which runs a slightly modified version of OxygenOS, tailor-made for the carrier.

On the other hand, the 5G variant of OnePlus 7 Pro is actually carrier unlocked and it gets the updates directly from OnePlus. In fact, the mysterious OxygenOS 9.5.6 build is meant for Elisa (as seen here) – probably due to some carrier configs. However, we finally have a new update in town!

As you can see, the OEM is now seeding OxygenOS 9.5.7 for OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. Those who are on EE are getting an incremental OTA of 311 MB, while we can’t spot any reference of Elisa users getting the same build.

Manu J. from OnePlus made the corresponding announcement post public, which suggests that people of Elisa should receive this update eventually. Interestingly there is no reference of an updated security patch, as the OTA is mostly concerned about optimizing cellular data speed during 5G to LTE handoff.

Still on June security patch!

It is unclear why OnePlus did not ship the up-to-date patches, provided they are immensely important to mitigate the QualPwn family of vulnerabilities. The current build was compiled on July 28, and the company did have access to the necessary sources back then.

Hopefully OnePlus 7 Pro 5G owners will receive another OTA real soon. Meanwhile, you can grab the full update package from the following link or our OnePlus 7 series update index (credit goes to Oxygen Updater community).
