Not every company is like Google, thus delivering monthly security updates to the whole product portfolio at the same time may not be possible for them (*cough* Essential *cough*). For example, the July security patch started to appear on some Realme 3 Pro units, while other phones are in queue.

As a matter of fact, Realme pushed a set of new updates to Realme C2 and Realme U1 in last few days. Unlike Realme 3 Pro, they did not bump the security patch version to July. Judging from the changelogs, the OTAs mostly contain internal bugfixes.

Call it a coincidence, but Realme C1 and Realme 2 users are now reporting about receiving similar bugfix updates on their phones. But there is a catch!

PiunikaWeb readers should remember that we were the first publication to spot the incremental rollout of Android Pie based ColorOS 6 OTA for both Realme 2 and Realme C1 at the beginning of this month. However, a lot of users apparently did not get the update then.

Those who already got the initial Pie build on their phones are reportedly getting a small (~125 MB) incremental OTA this time. On the other hand, the full size (~2 GB) update is hitting on Realme 2 or Realme C1 running Android 8.1 Oreo based ColorOS 5.2.

Unfortunately the changelogs for these new builds mention nothing other than ‘ColorOS 6 based on Android Pie’ paired with the old list of changes, thus we are unable to distinguish the exact improvements.

Both Realme 2 and Realme C1 are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC, thus their firmware packages are quite similar. Notice the pattern: in both cases the new OTA changes the version number from A.54 to A.56 – quite a subtle reshaping!

The changelogs are word by word same as the original Pie update log

It could be possible that the company silently patched a showstopper bug (which also explains the unavailability of the OTA), and re-releases the Pie based ColorOS 6 update for the phone duo. To avoid further issues, a smaller OTA is now being delivered to existing Pie users.

Once again, we are unable to capture the full package as the updates are rolled out in batches. If you have already got the OTA prompt on your Realme 2 or Realme C1, don’t forget to let us know by commenting below.

PiunikaWeb is a unique initiative that mainly focuses on investigative journalism. This means we do a lot of hard work to come up with news stories that are either ‘exclusive,’ ‘breaking,’ or ‘curated’ in nature. Perhaps that’s the reason our work has been picked by the likes of Forbes, Foxnews, Gizmodo, TechCrunch, Engadget, The Verge, Macrumors, and more.
