New Honor 8X update triggers lag, freeze & network issues for many

New Honor 8X update triggers lag, freeze & network issues for many

Honor 8X is the Huawei sub-brand Honor’s first ViLTE (an extension of VoLTE that stands for Video over LTE) compatible device in India that is fueled by Hisilicon Kirin 710 chipset. This mid-range device was initially shipped with Android Oreo 8.1 layered with the OEM’s customized skin EMUI 8.2.

Back in March, the device got to taste the much-awaited Android Pie-based EMUI 9.0. Then a few days later, came the April security patch (9.0.1.157). However since then, the phone – which is promised to be upgraded to EMUI 9.1 – did not receive a firmware update, until recently.

While Honor 8X users are eyeing EMUI 9.1, the OEM recently pushed the May security update (sized ~550MB) which bumped the version from 9.0.1.157 to 9.0.1.172. And just like Honor View 10, the May update has left Honor 8X users also complaining.

For a quick refresher, a few days back we highlighted how the monthly update on Honor View 10 left users chiming about problems like device lag or hang issue, apps not closing and continuously running in the background and causing fast battery drains and others.

And now, Honor 8X users are also complaining after receiving the May patch.

Going by reports, posted across the official help forum as well as Twitter, a lot of problems are being reported, including apps freezing or taking longer than expected to open, device lagging, no switching in between apps, apps not closing, phone overheating and network acting out.

Here are some of the recent reports for you to take a quick look at:

The recent update on Honor 8x 9.0.1.172 which was mentioned only as a security patch has totally ruined the phone experience. The camera app after the update, takes ages to load and would frequently freeze. Multiple apps crash, the launcher crashes. Can’t believe how a perfect phone can be ruined by a small security update. The camera also doesn’t mostly work from within other apps as well like what’s app, Instagram etc.

This is the worst update that honor provided this month. Since I have updated my phone with the latest version update 9.0.1.172(C675E5RIPI) I’m facing these issues : Overheating Lagging Freezing Face Unlock undetect Super slow ram management Apps doesn’t shows for 1 minute after freezing App lock interference

Continously fluctuating network after update. Honor customer executive suggested me to reset network settings and then reset all settings, i have done that but nothing changed. After reading lots of posts regarding this issue it seems to that it’s a big problem and not only in my handset but whoever did the update.

While reports continue proliferating, we haven’t come across any word from the company yet. Though we are looking out for more information on the matter.

In the meantime, users who are encountering network related issues after installing the latest patch have been suggested by Honor support to reset the device’s network settings (though none of the users have confirmed it helped).

Like always, we are keeping a close watch on the matter, and will update the story, as and when any new development comes to our sight. Till then, if you have any workaround to fix the issues triggered after the May update, feel free to share with other users by dropping a comment below.
