New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on July 15, 2022) follows:

Launched in February of 2017, YouTube TV is a streaming TV service that lets users watch live TV, cloud-based DVR, and on-demand videos from over 100 channels like CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, and others.

The subscription service recently crossed the 5 million paid subscriber milestone in a span of just five years.

But in the last few weeks, users have been complaining about black screen on channels and audio sync issues after the 5.1 surround sound update.

Adding to the long list of problems, YouTube TV subscribers are now facing a problem where video restarts or picks up from later on after pausing.

With reports dating back a couple of weeks, many are frustrated since they are unable to watch live TV or their favorite content normally.

DVR pause/play jumps to different sections. This has been happening a lot lately, I will pause, even for just a minute or two without it exiting the existing screen, and hit play and it spins for a second or two and then jumps either to a different section or the beginning of the broadcast. It’s repeatable on different shows/channels and happening after I restart/clear cache so I’m wondering if something is happening on the YTTV side.

When I pause a show it resumes at a later time. This has been happening ever since the update that gave 5.1 sound on my Nvidia Shield. When I pause something and time back to it, the show picks up at a later time and not where it was paused. Sometimes If I’m watching something live and pause when I resume the show comes back at real time instead of where I paused it. So it’s happening with live tv and with recorded shows.

Thankfully, a YouTube Community Manager on Reddit commented on the problem and said that the issue is currently being investigated by the developers. As to when it will be fixed, they did not share any ETA.

I’ve seen similar reports recently, and appreciate everyone’s time reporting this issue — I’ve passed these along to the engineering team currently looking into this, and will share any updates I receive here.

Also, we came across a potential workaround that requires users to reinstall the YouTube TV app or update to the latest version.

We hope YouTube TV developers are able to quickly find out the root cause of the problem where video restarts or plays from later on after pausing and fix it for good.

As always, we will be keeping tabs on the issue and update this space as and when required so stay tuned.

Update 1 (August 23)

05:09 pm (IST): YouTube TV subscribers are again reporting (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) the issue where when they watch live TV or DVR, the stream starts from the begining or takes them to a current live moment when they pause and resume after a few minutes.

YouTube devs have once again acknowledged it and said that they are working on a fix. However, there’s no ETA for the same.

Yes, I’m afraid so…and this isn’t the user experience we want obviously so apologies for the inconvenience it brings. Sorry I don’t have more of an update to provide at this point, but our eng team is aware of the issue and is actively looking into what can be done about it. (Source)
