[Updated: TV app too] YouTube thumbnails zoomed-in on 'Subscription' page for some users (workaround inside)

YouTube updates its design frequently and adds new features based on user feedback and industry trends. Some of the key aspects of its layout include Home Page, Video Player, Recommendations and more.

There’s also a YouTube subscription page that lets users manage the channels they have subscribed to and search for fresh content.

However, such features don’t guarantee that the platform is immune to various bugs and issues (1,2,3).

YouTube thumbnails zoomed-in on ‘Subscription’ page

Some YouTube users (1,2,3,4) have now taken to social media platforms to report that the subscription page has suddenly become very zoomed in.

@youtube – you changed my subscription page with larger preview windows. I do not like it. Can’t you make an option to either have large or small previews?

According to reports, the thumbnails or previews are significantly bigger and hence the subscription page only shows 6 videos on the screen at a time.

Users now hardly see three videos per line and it also doesn’t indicate when a specific video was released. This is quite frustrating for them as they don’t even have the option to revert it.

The new layout is even making it difficult for some to scroll and search through their extensive subscription page.

The same thing happened to me about an hour ago – there’s these obnoxious looking large video thumbnails now with only 3 videos per line. It’ll take forever to scroll through to search my large subscription feeds. This layout is ridiculous.

We saw a similar issue where the YouTube ‘Homepage’ tab only showed three videos per row. But, the subscription page seems to be the only tab affected now.

Potential workaround

Fortunately, we have come across a workaround for the issue where the thumbnails on the subscription page has zoomed-in for YouTube users. Those who use uBlock Origin can check it out below:

For now, YouTube says that it is just an experimental feature. Those who received it can share their feedback with the team about the same.

12:44 pm (IST): It seems that the ‘Watch Later’ and ‘Add to Queue’ buttons have also gone missing due to the recent zoomed-in UI (thumbnails) on the subscription page (1,2).

10:32 am (IST): Some YouTube TV app users are also getting (1, 2, 3, 4) the change where thumbnails are too large or zoomed in.
