We’re already close to the end of the year, so multiple services have started rolling out their annual recaps, especially the main music streaming ones. Now, it’s YouTube Music that is rolling out the 2023 Recap, including new user-based custom album covers.

YouTube Music 2023 Recap rollout has already started

YouTube Music is not the first service of its kind to launch this year’s Recap, since others such as Apple Music and Spotify did it before. So, many users were already eager to receive news about it, and fortunately, the moment has arrived.

You can check your personal Recap from the mobile app (Android and iOS) by tapping on your profile pic to display some options. Then, simply tap on ‘Your Recap’ and ‘Get your Recap’. After that, you will receive the summary in the same ‘stories’ format seen last year.

The YouTube Music app allows you to navigate through the Recap stories showing the summary of your personal listening data. Among the details included in the Recap are the top artists you have listened to in 2023. It will also tell you if you are one of the top listeners worldwide for a particular artist.

You can also check the ‘Music moods’ section which will show how your mood was at certain periods of the year according to the music you listened to the most, as well as the top most listened-to genres. Of course, you can download it and share it on your social platforms to show off your musical tastes with your friends and contacts.

Now with Recap custom album cover

That said, although the YouTube Music 2023 Recap uses the same graphic format as last year, there is something new: ‘Your album cover’. This custom album cover is generated based on the colors and ‘mood’ associated with your most-listened-to songs or albums.

This could be similar to the Android ‘Material Color Theming’ that takes colors from your wallpaper to apply them to different UI elements, but also generating an image. And, there’s even a ‘Musical Photo Album’ inspired by your top song.

If the 2023 YouTube Music Recap is not yet available for you, don’t worry, as it could be due to a ‘slow rollout’ in your area, but it’s just a matter of time for it to appear in your app.
