[Updated] YouTube Change.org petition to disable or remove Shorts from Subscriptions goes live, but there's an easy workaround

YouTube is one of the popular social media platforms used by millions of people across the globe. It also has many useful features which allow content creators to cater to the needs of the audience and brands.

For instance, one can create videos that are 15 to 60 seconds long with the help of YouTube Shorts. Like Stories, these are vertical videos recorded with the help of a mobile device and uploaded to YouTube via the YouTube app.

However, it looks like not everyone likes these short clippings.

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), multiple users are frustrated due to the presence of YouTube Shorts videos in their feed or subscriptions page.

Last year the company introduced dedicated tabs for Shorts and Live. However, even after this change, these videos still randomly appear on the subscriptions page.

Even some content creators allege that YouTube has recently started promoting Shorts at a fast pace. And they believe that such videos are not useful for them or cater to their needs.

Some are also getting bombarded with notifications of such videos uploaded by the various creators they subscribe to, which is, as expected, quite annoying.

I use upload notifs from like 50% of my subscriptions, i dont want notifications of the shorts they upload. I do watch shorts but i dont want notifications about them.

Due to this, users feel that the company should provide an option to remove or disable Shorts from their Subscriptions page.

In fact, someone has already started a petition on Change.org. in a bid to force YouTube into caving in. However, at the time of writing this piece, there isn’t much activity on the petition.

Fortunately, we did come across a workaround that may help solve your problem. Firstly, you can try installing the uBlock Origin add-on on your web browser. After this, you will need to configure its filters as mentioned below.

Alternatively, you can install the Hide YouTube Shorts extension on your Chromium-based web browser to hide these annoying videos from your feed and subscriptions tabs, alongside other customizations.
