YouTube auto-rotate bug on Google Pixel 7, Samsung Galaxy Fold & other phones persists

YouTube is one of the world’s largest video streaming platforms with millions of users who rely on it for their daily dose of entertainment.

The platform recently received a series of new updates that revamped the user interface, introduced the Ambient Mode, and fixed certain issues.

According to reports (1,2,3,4), the YouTube auto-rotate feature is not working or is bugged at the moment. It appears that a recent update broke the auto-rotate functionality on certain devices.

Instead of automatically rotating the video from portrait to landscape mode, users need to manually click the icon on the bottom right-hand side of their playback window to get the job done.

Seems to be when I’m using YouTube mostly but auto rotate doesn’t kick in. Have to manually activate it myself which is frustrating.

A recent report from Phone Arena indicated that the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 were facing the auto-rotate bug.

However, it seems that some Samsung Galaxy Fold models and other Android devices (1,2) are also facing a similar issue on the platform. This is incredibly frustrating as it hinders the intuitiveness of the application.

According to some Galaxy Fold users, the feature stops working especially when the device is unfolded. But some of them have figured out a way to mitigate it.

Though the issue is disappointing for some, it has not been acknowledged by the developers. The YouTube app recently received a new update but it has no mention of a fix to this problem.

However, the issue allegedly got fixed for a Pixel 6 user after the latest update. Those facing the bug can try updating the app for a potential fix.
