YouTube 2MB thumbnail file-size limit may soon be lifted

YouTube is the largest video platform in the world. To reward content creators, the company offers economic benefits based on views and advertising on the videos.

In addition to the above, the Google-owned service offers multiple tools that improve the uploading content experience. But, there are some tools that need tweaking, according to content creators.

One of the most requested changes by YouTube creators is to extend the file-size limit for video thumbnail images (currently limited to 2MB).

The request has been floating around for years. And now it seems YouTube may finally be considering making the switch and allowing ‘heavier’ thumbnail images (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10).

As mentioned above, content creators have been requesting the extension of the file-size limit for video thumbnail images on YouTube for many years.

According to reports, the company should allow the weight of the video thumbnail to be at least 4MB or 5MB. This way, video creators won’t have to spend additional time compressing thumbnail images.

I have one of the oldest complaints on the platform and its over 10 years in the making.

Can You PLEASE make the “2mb” size for thumbnails limit be increased to like 4 mb or 5 mb?

Is that true. Even if data saver caps st 480 doesn’t watching a single 10 minute video use more than several pages or so of scrolling assuming it uses the full 2mb per thumbnail (which I don’t think it does 2 is the max limit most thumb maybe small) I wish the numbers were there.

It should be noted that, in some cases, the limit has caused more annoying problems. For example, there are creators that YouTube banned for 24 hours from uploading new thumbnail images.

I’m still salty YouTube banned me from uploading thumbnails for my vids for 24hrs.

Like, why??

I did like 100 vids in a row… but even at 2mb per thumb that’s nothing compared to the stuff I’m uploading.

Recently, in response to a YouTuber’s request, the YouTube team replied that the weight extension for thumbnail images is ‘a great idea’.

Granted, the above could be the slightest hint that creators may see changes related to this feature in the coming weeks or months for that matter. For now, though, the company wants creators to keep sending their feedback through this link.
