YouTube for Google TV app received an update a few days ago. This brought it improvements in image quality, more available storage and other optimizations.

But, it seems that the update also brought performance issues while trying to play videos, with an annoying delay of several seconds before starting each one.

According to multiple reports, there is a 10 second delay or buffering issue in the latest version of YouTube for Google TV app. This affects all devices with the mentioned OS, such as the Chromecast with Google.

YouTube for Google TV app suffers from a delay or buffering issue after latest update

YouTube for Google TV app users are facing the aforementioned glitch since its latest update. In the Chromecast with Google, this reportedly started after software version QTS1.210311.036 was installed.

Selecting the YouTube app through the remote it buffers for several seconds then buffers each time I select a YouTube video to watch. I was working fine a few days ago. Can it be a setting?

Me too I have two Chromecast with Google TV and they’re both acting the same way I thought I put a post earlier today but I can’t find it but everything else is working fine my computer is working fine my phone is working fine it’s just the Chromecast with Google TV. Every video I try and load takes about 10 seconds

However, the problem does not only affect Chromecasts with Google. Other reports indicate that devices such as the Nvidia Shield TV box (also with Android TV) are presenting the bug.

So, all suspicions are on the YouTube for Google TV app, as the service works correctly without delay on all other platforms and OS.

There is a workaround for that

Pending an official fix, there is a workaround that reportedly helps to solve the problem, Basically, it is recommended to select ‘Reset app’ from the settings:

There are some good news. Thanks to users that tested this, there is now a solution for the 10 seconds delay: Open the YouTube App, go to Settings > Reset app and press on “Reset app”.

This removes the user’s autoplay settings, so they must be reconfigured. Also, the delay issue can reappear when switching between two accounts.

At the moment, there is no official acknowledgment from Google about this bug. If there are any in the next few days, we will update this article to keep you informed.

Update (December 27, 2021)

10:37 am (IST): New reports now indicate that YouTube has fixed this issue on the backend. As such, affected users only need to reset their apps once.

Some nice news, the Chromecast/YouTube team seems to have fixed the issue on their side. You might only need to reset the app once, but it should work properly after that.
