New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on June 22, 2023) follows:

Announced as a free-to-play multiplayer experience, XDefiant is poised to take the gaming community by storm, delivering fast-paced action, intense gunfights, and a unique blend of gameplay elements that set it apart.

The game has recently entered its open beta phase, allowing players to dive into its action-packed gameplay.

XDefiant controller settings stuck on ‘Keyboard & Mouse’

However, as with any beta release, players are encountering various issues that need to be addressed before the game’s full launch.

One significant problem that XDefiant players are facing is that their controller settings are stuck on ‘Keyboard & Mouse’ (1,2,3,4,5,6).

This limitation prevents players from switching to the desired ‘Controller’ option, as it remains grayed out and inaccessible in the settings menu.

This issue has understandably caused frustration among those who prefer the comfort, precision, and familiarity of using a controller for their gaming experience.

One issue is it’s showing my input as a mouse and keyboard but I’m on ps5 playing with a ps5 controller

Why can’t I change my preference to controller. You auto have it on mouse and keyboard. And it says I can change it while not in game and I’m not in a game

In response to the growing complaints, PATTYP has stepped forward to address the concern and provide an official statement.

According to the developer, this specific behavior of the controller settings being stuck on ‘Keyboard & Mouse’ is actually intended during the beta phase of the game.

He clarified that despite the visual constraint in the settings menu, XDefiant is programmed to detect connected controllers and allow players to utilize them for gameplay. This has been the case so far (1,2,3).

However, the controller functionality is not working as intended for everyone as reports of erratic aiming and keyboard suddenly popping up have surfaced recently.

‘custom controller layout’ option requested

Another significant problem that XDefiant players have encountered is the inability to create custom controller layouts (1,2,3,4).

When using a controller, players expect the freedom to customize button assignments according to their preferences and playstyle.

Unfortunately, in the current beta version, this crucial option is missing, limiting players to preset controller layouts that may not suit their individual needs.

The absence of the custom controller layout feature not only affects players comfort and muscle memory but also hampers their ability to compete effectively against other players.

Loving the game so far! Only thing it’s missing is custom controller binds. Would be amazing if it was added before actual launch <3 Source

There are controller presets on PS5, but no custom mapping. Either an oversight or another stubborn game dev like with Tears of the Kingdom and Dying Light, where the devs think they know better than the players.

By swiftly addressing these concerns, Ubisoft can ensure that players have a smooth transition between input methods and have an equal opportunity to enjoy XDefiant.

Ultimately, resolving these controller-related issues will contribute to a more positive beta experience and pave the way for a successful official launch of the game.

Update 1 (June 23, 2023)

05:27 pm (IST): Some console and PC players (1,2) complain that they are only paired with those who use a mouse and keyboard. It is possibly because everyone’s setting is now set to “Mouse + Keyboard”.
