[Updated] XDefiant controller not working, erratic aiming & keyboard suddenly popping up (workarounds inside)

XDefiant is a first person shooter video game by Ubisoft that was initially released on February 20, 2023. The game is currently under open beta testing.

And as is usually the case with any beta version, XDefiant players are also reporting various bugs and issues with the game. Recently, some players complained about game crashing and freezing.

Now we have come across reports suggesting that players are facing multiple issues with controller while playing the video game.

Some XDefiant players are reporting that controller is not working for them. Gamers say that even though the controller is connected, it doesn’t work with the game, while some say it doesn’t responds when changing certain settings.

Is anyone having issues with their wired controllers? I use ds4 windows and every time I get in XD my controller switches color to blue and ignores my ds4 settings. Does anyone else know how to fix this. I don’t have Bluetooth on my controller. (Source)

How do i connect my ps4 controller to use it in game, it’s connected to my pc through bluetooth but when i go in game it does not work at all. Is there something i need to do for it to work? (Source)

As if the aforementioned issues weren’t enough, players are reporting more issues with controller such as keyboard suddenly popping out and PS5 DualSense Controller causing crashes.

Players say (1, 2, 3) that virtual keyboard pops up out of nowhere when they are trying to sprint using controller. Moreover, the PS5 DualSense Controller is causing game to crash (1, 2, 3).

Fortunately, Ubisoft support has confirmed that they are aware of the controller bug and said that it will be fixed before the game is fully launched.

Another problem that players have come across is erratic aiming. As per the reports, players are unable to aim while shooting.

They say that they can’t aim as every other button on the controller works fine, except for LT (left trigger) that controls aim assist.

hey, im trying to play this game on xbox series s and I can’t aim at all because my controller have trigger stop, every other buttons works fine even RT to fire, but the LT don’t, anyone having this problem? (Source)

Moreover, some gamers also reported instances where some keys on controller are not registering or incorrectly responding. However, there’s a workaround for wrong input on PC and you can check it out below.

11:50 am (IST): PC users can try closing Steam so that the controller input program doesn’t collide with DS4.
