Several X (Twitter) users have lately been accusing Elon Musk of allegedly nerfing the impressions and engagement of their posts. Some even claim that their post impressions have decreased by as much as 95%.

Post impressions and engagements are two important metrics to measure the success of one’s social media content. These metrics not only show the reach of a post but also the amount of interest and engagement among the audience.

However, by looking at the reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), it appears that multiple users are disappointed with their post metrics on X (Twitter).

Some allege that they roughly get a total of 56 impressions in two hours, and that too when they have more than 1400 followers. They believe that the metrics get reduced substantially if one stops posting content daily.

Others complain that their engagement is getting lower even when their follower count is increasing. This has made users speculate that the platform might have limited the reach of non-blue members.

By doing so, the platform can force members to opt for the paid Blue subscription and increase their profits significantly.

A few even contend that their posts perform much better on other social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok. Astonishingly, this happens even when they have more followers on X than on both platforms combined.

A user claims that they used to get over 100k impressions on an average post and over 1 million on a good one. However, for the past few days, they have struggled to even reach a total of 10k impressions.

I run a page w 14.2k followers and was getting over 100k impressions on a bad post and over 1m on a good one. this was happening regularly, and I noticed for the last few days its been hard to even get to 10k impressions.

Another thinks that their account has been deliberately restricted on Twitter. They claim that high-engagement tweets used to trend prominently but now remain buried.

They have even tried raising their issue with Elon Musk, but to no avail. Interestingly, a user asserts to have received 32 impressions on a post even when they don’t have a single follower.

Twitter is no better than facebook or any other platform. I even paid for the subscription for a time. I’ve posted hundreds of things, many originals and I have less than 100 impressions. What a joke.

However, you should note that these are just speculations, and there is nothing concrete to prove these allegations.

Update 1 (September 18, 2023)

06:56 pm (IST): Elon Musk has confirmed that he will look into the issue with X shadow ban code discouraging interaction with smaller accounts.

Currently, code analysts believe that interacting with a low-reputation account can lower your own reach.
