Windows 11 'UNSUPPORTED PROCESSOR' error message after KB5029351 update acknowledged (workaround inside)

Windows 11 users have been lately getting an ‘UNSUPPORTED PROCESSOR’ error message while installing the recent KB5029351 update.

This update brings bug fixes for some known issues as well as quality improvements.

For instance, the patch addresses the issues that affect the Group Policy Service, print jobs sent to a virtual print queue, search box size, and much more.

The recent update also adds new functionality that affects app defaults and a policy called ‘Enable optional updates’.

However, by glancing at the reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), it appears that the latest patch has also introduced a bug that prevents Windows from running on some processors.

As per the claims, users are unable to complete the installation process and get an ‘UNSUPPORTED PROCESSOR’ while trying to do so. Some even assert that they are unable to get Windows back to a working state.

Luckily, a few contend that Windows automatically rolls back the update and that they are able to use their devices normally.

It’s noteworthy that the issue mostly affects those with 13th Gen Intel CPUs and MSI motherboards installed on their devices.

And this is without a doubt bad news for users who can no longer utilize their desktops or laptops for their daily work. People are disappointed and have even questioned the need to introduce such an unstable update for the OS.

One of the users says that they experienced similar problems even when they had not overclocked their setup. They added that after a series of unsuccessful boot attempts, Windows 11 finally managed to start on their machine.

Those impacted have taken to web forums to look for ways to install the latest update without bricking up their devices.

Fortunately, the Windows support team is aware of the issue and is currently investigating it. They have also asked the affected users to share their feedback with them so as to better understand the problem and resolve it.

Luckily, those who have an MSI motherboard can try rolling back their BIOS to the previous update in order to get rid of this problem.
