New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…

Original story (published on August 4, 2021) follows:

Charter’s Spectrum is a prominent name when it comes to cable television operators. Charter subscribers often use the Spectrum TV app for secondary televisions.

The Spectrum TV app is available on several mobile and OTT devices like tablets, smartphones, Apple TV, Xbox, and Samsung Smart TV.

Roku, which is one of the most popular connected TV platforms, also used to be among the vendors whose devices supported the Spectrum TV app.

However, that changed when the contract between Charter’s Spectrum and Roku came to an end late last year. Roku users have been unable to download or use the Spectrum TV app ever since.

While the app still works for those who already had it installed on their Roku devices, new users or those who delete the installed app cannot get it back on Roku. However, there are some other, slightly less efficient ways to make things work.

This is because Spectrum and Roku have been unable to come to an agreement for restoring the app since December 2020.

While both parties often say that they are trying to come to a mutual agreement, a constant blame game is still on with paying customers stuck in between.

Thank you for reaching out to us tonight. We are still continuing to work with Roku to reach an agreement, but we have not been provided any updates or timelines for that to occur. ^RT

I’m sorry. We are disappointed that Roku decided not to accept our offer as well. Maybe in the future, this will change. We will definitely pass your feedback along. All feedback gets collected and reviewed to help better our service in the future. ^MD

It has been over nine months since this problem started inconveniencing Charter subscribers with Roku devices. However, neither vendors have done anything to resolve the conflict so far.

@Ask_Spectrum Is there any way Spectrum and Roku will work things out so I can use my Roku for Spectrum TV? Or has that ship sailed and an agreement will not be made?

The exact reason behind this app blackout remains unclear as both parties have not provided much clarity on the matter.

It is possible that the app might have been taken down due to unfruitful carriage fees negotiations between Roku and Spectrum.

However, this is still based on speculation as there is no official word from Roku and Spectrum regarding the same.

Thus we hope Roku and Spectrum figure out a way to restore the Spectrum TV app on the platform soon.

That said, we will keep tracking this for further development and will update this story as and when we get new information. So, keep a weather eye on it.

Update 1 (August 18)

01:40 pm (IST): Now, reports indicate that the Spectrum app is back following a renewal of an agreement to distribute the said app between Roku and Charter Communications.
