We understand service outages or breakage are pretty common. But when an outage ends up concerning a massive user base, it becomes worth highlighting. Something similar is happening with VRChat as of writing this.

For the past couple of hours, a proliferation of reports saying VRChat is down, not working, and showcasing a message stating error 1020 on accessing are populating Twitter.

Take a look at what some of the complainants have to say:

ok so is anyone else getting ERROR 1020 on the vrchat website and unable to log into vrchat at all? (Source)

Down detector also conveys VRChat is going through a rough patch in some regions as can be seen in the live outage map below:

While reports continue to snowball, there’s yet to come an official word from the service providers.

Moreover, the official status page for VRChat currently shows that all systems are operational and nothing is down or not working.

That said, we’re keeping a close watch on official social media channels for more information on what could be causing this problem.

We’ll share with you the relevant developments as and when we bump into any. So stay tuned to this space for the latest info on the matter.

Update 1 (July 09, 2021)

IST 01:00 pm: According to recent reports, it seems the massively multiplayer online virtual reality platform VRChat is down. The same has been reported by popular service outages platform, Downdetector.

Update 2 (April 14, 2022)

04:26 pm (IST): Many users have taken to Twitter to report that VRChat is down or not working for them. Moreover, the reports on Downdetector also confirm the same.

Update 3 (April 15, 2022)

06:29 pm (IST): A report on Downdetector now suggests that the recent issue with VRChat is now resolved.

Update 4 (August 12, 2022)

11:24 am (IST): Many users have taken to Twitter to report that VRChat is currently down or not working for them. Also, reports on Downdetector confirm the same.

06:45 pm (IST): Reports on Downdetector suggest that the recent outage with VRChat has now been resolved.

Update 5 (November 09, 2022)

08:27 am (IST): Multiple reports indicate that VRChat is currently down or not working (1, 2). There is still no official acknowledgment of the issue.

Update 6 (November 23, 2022)

08:21 am (IST): VRChat support team confirmed that their servers are currently in the middle of an outage and that they are working to resolve it, but there is still no ETA for everything to work normally again.

Unfortunately, our status has not changed from our previous update. We are supporting our upstream provider as they continue to resolve the issues causing our service outage.

Update 7 (December 13, 2022)

11:48 am (IST): Recent reports (1, 2) and Downdetector indicate that VRChat servers are currently in the midst of an outage.

02:45 pm (IST): Downdetector and the lack of new reports related to the latest outage indicate that VRChat is working properly again.

Update 8 (January 03, 2023)

04:53 pm (IST): Multiple recent reports indicate that VRChat users have been dealing with a constant crashing issue. The problem is affecting both the Quest version (1, 2, 3) and the PC VR version (1, 2, 3).

According to a user, the crashing issue started after a recent update. There is still no official acknowledgment from the VRChat devs.

Update 9 (April 3, 2023)

01:07 pm (IST): According to fresh reports (1, 2, 3), VR Chat is again crashing for some users.

06:36 pm (IST): Lack of reports indicate that the recent crashing issue with VR Chat has now been resolved.

Update 10 (April 27, 2023)

10:50 am (IST): It appears that VRChat servers are currently down or experiencing issues as some players (1,2,3) are unable to log in using their Steam account.

12:50 pm (IST): The recent outage has now resolved.
