For years, Google had been following a proper schedule for rolling out monthly security updates. The company had a policy of releasing security updates on the first Monday of every month. However, that has changed ever since the release of Pixel 8. And now, Google releases monthly updates whenever they are ready.
Following the new schedule, the company has recently released the November 2023 update for Pixel phones. And soon after that, carriers like Verizon promptly initiated the rollout of their version of the update. Although the Pixel devices on Verizon received the same bug fixes as the other unlocked phones with the November patch, there’s an additional bug that Verizon specifically addressed on Pixel 7 devices.
According to the changelog, apart from the general bug fixes applied to all Google Pixel units, Verizon has specifically resolved a video call freezing issue in the dialer app of the Pixel 7. This bug was causing the video to freeze when the other person minimized the call. And if you own a Pixel 7 or 7 Pro locked to Verizon, you might have encountered this issue during video calls made from the dialer app.
However, after installing the November patch on your Verizon-locked Pixel 7 device, you should no longer experience the video call freezing bug after the other person minimizes the video call.
Other bug fixes included in Verizon’s November patch for Pixel 7
Other than this, there are a few more issues that were resolved. The update tackles occasional NFC and related service instability under specific conditions. Also, the overall system stability has been improved for smoother experience.
There are also some fixes in the user interface section. A fix has been applied for the problem where desktop icons would vanish after unlocking the device. The update also addresses the issue where wallpapers would appear misaligned due to notch or punch-hole cameras. Furthermore, a display bug has been resolved where users would encounter a green flash when the display is turned off. These were all the bug fixes that come with Verizon’s latest November patch on Pixel phones.
On a Verizon-locked Pixel 7, the latest update carrying the aforementioned fixes can be identified by the software version – UP1A.231105.003. And if you haven’t yet received the firmware on your device via OTA, then you can also check for it manually through settings. To check for the update, go to Settings > System > System updates, and then click ‘Check for update’.
