With the outset of February 2018, Sony pushed out Android Oreo to both Xperia X and Xperia X Compact. But right after that, Xperia X Compact users started complaining about their units failing to recognize wired headsets when plugged in.

Some of the affected users who got in touch with Sony Support were disappointed after the company denied assistance, saying it’s an issue related to third-party headsets.

Sony refuses to acknowledge the problem and claims that it does not support the work of third-party headsets.

Thank you for contacting Sony Xperia support. As for your query, we would like to inform you that we are very sorry that your Xperia X compact software did not help repairing your software. Unfortunately, we do not have the problem as global, so we recommend that you contact our authorized Arvato Service Center where your device will be inspected by a specialist.

But recently, one of the Moderators on the official Sony forum made a revelation saying the company’s not only aware of the problem, but will be fixing the same in a future update.

I just contacted my Local support and they clearly stated that they acknowledge this issue and they going to fix it in an upcoming update.

For a quick glance, here’s how some of the complainants explained the problem:

After upgrading to Android 8.0.0 eagle my smartphone stopped seeing
wired Hi-Fi headset Audio-Technica ATH-CKS99i.The sound through the headset is not displayed, the Radio application requires connecting the headset, when the headset is connected.

I have pretty much the same problem with my pair of V-Moda Crossfade M-100 headphones, which also support headset functionality. Before I upgraded to Android 8 everything worked fine, now my phone does not recognize the device at all.

I use a Sony Xperia X Compact and use this only with a Bose QC 25 headset. This worked with no troubles until today, when I updated to Android 8.0.0. After the update, nothing happens when I plug in the headset. The headset works with other devices. The phone works with other speakers connected by the aux.

While it’s appeasing that Sony will be fixing this wired-headsets recognition failure, there’s no known time line as to how long will it take to push out the fix. We hope they do it sooner than later. Meanwhile, we are keeping a watch on the matter, and will update in case of any further development.
