New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on February 17, 2020) follows:

Android as a platform is crazy customizable. Add this to the fact that Android spans across hundreds of different phone-makers and you have a market that has something to offer to everyone, preferences notwithstanding.

On iOS, however, the story is very different. iOS devices are as closed-source as they come. Users of Apple products have to look at iOS the way Apple intended. Unless they jailbreak their devices.

There are a couple of ways to jailbreak your iOS device. We have covered most of these methods on this platform in the past so you can check out our jailbreak section for that.

Another rather popular method of jailbreaking that we have also talked about before is uncOver. This method has been around for a few generations now and supports many newer versions of iOS.

This tool is getting an update to version v4.0.1 following the Substrate Safe Mode fix release for checkra1n and unc0ver. This new update brings a few changes and improvements. According to the developer, this version brings full-fledged A12-A13 support for iOS 13.0-13.3 with Cydia and system-wide tweak injection.

It is worth noting that this is a re-release, seeing as version 4.0.1 had a few major bugs like broken A12-A13 support for 13.0-13.2.3. If you are on those versions, DO NOT use version 4.0.0. Your device will be jailbroken but it will freeze afterward. Use 4.0.1 or wait for a more stable release.

Other issues fixed in this release include bugs from previous builds like the inability to install App Store apps after jailbreak. Users who used earlier builds also complained of Push Notifications from iMessage not showing. This has also been fixed in version 4.0.1.

There was a workaround for the App Store bug in the previous build hat involved using AppSyncUnified. If you installed this app, you might want to uninstall it before updating it to the latest build of unc0ver, as this has been fixed.

The process of installation remains the same. However, the developer also advises users to use Windows for the process (AltStore). This is because, with the new version of unc0ver, macOS system requirements have been increased.

You will need the very latest build of macOS as this new version does not work on anything older than Mojave so all High Sierra and El Capitan users are out of luck.

As at the time of writing, iOS 13.3.1 was still not supported. However, the developer is working on a fix for this so only use this tool if you’re running iOS 13.3 and lower.

Update (February 25)

unc0ver v4.1.0 is now out. The developer says that this update now comes with 99% exploit reliability for iOS 13.0-13.3 and fixes for compatibility issues. You can read more about it here.
