Twitter users worldwide were caught off guard and left feeling frustrated and surprised as they encountered significant limitations on the platform.

The source of their dismay stemmed from an unexpected decision made by Elon Musk, who had imposed strict limits on Twitter.

These limits restricted the number of tweets that users could view within a single day, resulting in a barrage of complaints and a general sense of confusion among the Twitter community.

However, it doesn’t stop there as Twitter users are getting an error message everytime they try to use the basic features of the platform (1,2,3,4,5).

Numerous users get the same error message repeatedly ‘This request looks like it might be automated. To protect our users from spam and other malicious activity, we can’t complete this action right now. Please try again later.’

They are unable to perform several essential actions, including liking tweets, bookmarking them, sending DMs to individuals or groups, retweeting, quoting tweets, and replying to tweets.

As a result, users feel disconnected from the platform, as they are limited to only viewing other people’s tweets.

I can’t do anything now. I just got the app few weeks ago and I was really liking it but now I literally cannot interact with anyone else on that app.

As stated in the title, i am basically unable to do anything on twitter. I cant like, reply, tweet, retweet, bookmark, send direct messages, or anything else on twitter. The only thing I can do is receive DMs, which I can’t respond to. I haven’t received any notification from Twitter saying that my account has been suspended or locked.

Potential workarounds

While users await a comprehensive solution from Twitter, some have found temporary workarounds to bypass the restrictions.

Some users have reported that switching to browsers like Opera has allowed them to bypass the rate limits temporarily.

Others have found success by temporarily deactivating their Twitter accounts and then reactivating them.

I found that if you deactivate your account then reactive your account , the rate limit will reset.

This process seems to reset the rate limits imposed on the account, allowing users to regain access to various functions.

Users have reported that using mobile browsers on their smartphones, rather than desktop browsers, has allowed them to bypass the rate limits.

Lastly, enabling privacy mode or incognito mode on your browser can sometimes bypass the limits imposed by Twitter. This mode disables browser extensions and cookies that might trigger the automated request error.

So it seems like using privacy mode on my browser (Safari) has let me get around this rate limit nonsense

It’s important to note that these workarounds are temporary solutions and may not work for everyone.

Elon Musk said that that these limits are temporary so we hope they get lifted soon so that everyone can go back to using Twitter the way it was indented.
