Threads is a recently launched dynamic social media and networking service that offers a unique way to connect and communicate with others.

The platform makes it easy for one to share text updates or participate in public conversations.

Its close integration with Instagram also helps enhance the user experience by connecting users with their existing network and allowing for a smooth transition between the two platforms.

Currently, one can access the platform by using the dedicated app clients available for both Android and iOS.

In addition to this, users can access Threads profiles or individual posts via the website. Although they cannot access the feed or the main timeline from the portal.

Threads desktop app or web version not coming anytime soon

However, ever since the platform’s launch, users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) have been requesting Meta to release a web app or desktop version for the same as well.

And understandably, the availability of app clients on multiple platforms will make it easy to access the platform. This will also be helpful for all those who primarily use web browsers to browse through social media on their desktops.

Some allege that the company has released a minimal viable product to intentionally encourage users to utilise the app on their smartphones for a more immersive experience.

While others are of the view that the platform was seemingly rushed to market to capitalize on the users displeasure with Twitter.

A section of users even believe that the platform cannot become a serious competitor to Twitter until a desktop or web app is developed.

One of those affected says that they will not be using Threads as random posts appear on the timeline and the feed cannot be sorted in a chronological manner. They are concerned about aggressive data scraping as well.

Until threads adds real desktop functionality, and some version of spaces, I doubt I’ll use it much. I never particularly cared for the UI or UE of Instagram. I don’t need to use 2 apps when 1 does it all.

Although an alleged response from Instagram’s head suggests that the development of a desktop app or web version of the platform is not on their priority list right now.

This indicates that the desktop version will not be coming anytime soon. Nevertheless, you can try mirroring your smartphone to the desktop or using it as a virtual Android device.

06:31 pm (IST): Initially regarded as a low priority, Mark Zuckerberg has now addressed a user’s query and confirmed that the ‘Desktop version’ is in the works and will be released soon.
