Players of Sumo Digital’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre are reportedly facing a significant amount of toxicity.

The game’s online public lobbies are supposedly plagued by players engaging in trolling behavior, particularly among those playing as the ‘Victim’ team members.

This is getting so frustrating and it’s nearly every 2nd game where victims will wait at the exit and us family members needs to run around figuring out where y’all are. It’s such a waste of time. (Source)

Played since launch and have noticed that the more people that have levelled up and gotten to know the game better, the more toxic a lot of Victim players are becoming. I usually go Family because I’m better at it and have more fun working with the other members, but it kills the vibe for us when a moron Victim decides to wait for you, knock you down and then teabag like it’s 2012 still. Similar to the gameplay seen in Dead by Daylight, “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” is an asymmetrical survival horror game.

Players are divided into two groups: the Victims and the Slaughter Family. The objective for Victims is to locate the exit and escape before the Family members catch and eliminate them.

Unfortunately, the resemblance to Dead by Daylight not only ends in gameplay. It also extends to the alleged presence of toxicity in this game. A player shares their frustrating experience:

I had a game earlier where we couldn’t find the last victim. Eventually, we saw her aura doing circles on the other side of the map. When we finally managed to navigate our way over there which took another minute or 2 she waited until we got close and then just opened the gate and ran out. Are players really trying to bring the whole “watch me leave” thing from DBD to TCM? (Source)

Reports (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) indicate that many Victims are causing frustration by waiting at the exit, which disrupts the gameplay for Family members.

What is causing rising toxicity in Texas Chain Saw Massacre

As players become more toxic towards their teammates (1, 2), some are even leaving matches prematurely, putting their teams at a disadvantage.

Players are pointing out the absence of penalties for such behavior as a reason for the growing toxicity.

Game is so good and fun I’ve been waiting for this game for 2 years and it was definitely worth the wait. Much better than other games of this genre. but people that quite in the middle of the game are really annoying. Just give them xp penalty atleast. (Source)

To make matters worse, some players report experiencing harassment not only through in-game chats but also via direct messages.

Among the concerning reports is the claim that even online content creators are contributing to toxicity by targeting fellow players.

As of now, the game’s developers have not released an official statement regarding these issues.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on any further developments.
