The Sims 4 characters randomly changing appearance for some

Players are reporting (1,2,3,4,5) that the issue is in the Growing Together expansion where Sims’ appearances, including their skin color and clothing, change randomly.

It is linked to Sims who lose a tooth during childhood and then grow up.

Players have reported that the bug affects both base game and custom content, and it appears to be a widespread issue.

They also added that their Sims’ appearances have changed dramatically, with their skin turning black or white and their clothes changing to mismatched outfits.

The issue is not only frustrating for players but also makes it difficult to create and maintain their Sims’ appearances as they progress through the game.

Official acknowledgment

The Sims team has acknowledged the issue and is working on a permanent fix for the bug.

However, there is no timeline for when this fix will be released. Fortunately, we have found a workaround that involves fixing the tooth before aging up a child Sim.

If the player has already aged up a Sim, they can age them down to a child, fix the tooth, and then age them back again.

By taking this step, players can avoid the appearance-changing bug and ensure that their Sim’s appearance remains consistent as they age up in the game.

This workaround has been successful for some players, but please note that it is not a guaranteed fix.
