Valve’s beloved online shooter, Team Fortress 2, is currently facing significant scrutiny as the #SaveTF2 movement once again gains traction on social media trending pages. This time, the movement has been mobilized to demand answers from Valve regarding the ongoing cheater infestation, bugs, and the recent DMCA takedown of TF2 fan games.
What is #SaveTF2?
The #SaveTF2 movement is a community initiative aimed at capturing Valve’s attention to the long-standing problems within the video game Team Fortress 2. The movement was initiated by Team Fortress 2 YouTuber SquimJim in early May 2022, with the goal of compelling Valve to acknowledge and address the bot issue and ultimately improve the game.

Previously, the movement yielded positive results as the developers listened to players’ complaints, implemented the requested changes, and “fixed” the game. This movement serves as a means for players to ensure ongoing support for TF2.
Why was #SaveTF2 called in 2024 by Team Fortress 2 players?
Team Fortress 2 was initially released in 2007, and due to the game’s significant popularity and influence in pop culture, it continues to attract a substantial number of active players daily.

However, the game is currently plagued by various issues, with an influx of cheaters and hackers that are reported by players to be disrupting and ruining the gaming experience for others.
In addition to the cheater infestations, the game suffers from severe performance issues, glitches, and various bugs. In response to these concerns, players have once again initiated the #SaveTF2 movement, fueled by the recent DMCA takedown of a TF2 fan game.
What is the recent TF2 DMCA take down?
Team Fortress: Source 2, a fan project aiming to port Team Fortress 2 to the Source 2 engine, has been shut down following a DMCA takedown notice from Valve. The project, developed by Amper Software, was forced to cease development after receiving the notice, which led to the blocking of the group’s GitHub repositories and all its forks.
Valve’s action was in response to the project using assets from Team Fortress 2 without permission, resulting in the cancellation of the fan remake.
Ultimately, it remains to be seen what outcomes the movement will bring. Whether it will once again succeed in compelling the developers to address the demands, or if it will be disregarded, cannot be determined at this time.
