Google has now officially began rolling out the ability to interact with Gemini directly through the Google Messages app (currently only in beta). This innovative integration empowers users to leverage the vast capabilities of Gemini for a multitude of tasks in the Messages app. You can craft a well-structured message or brainstorm creative ideas to simply engage in stimulating conversations.

Initially, this beta functionality will be accessible on a select range of Google Pixel devices, encompassing the Pixel 6, 7, and 8 series, along with the Pixel Fold and Pixel A series as well. On the other side Galaxy S22 series or newer, along with Galaxy Z Flip or Z Fold series will also get this feature.

Steps to start a chat with Gemini in Google Messages

That’s enough with the chit chatter. Let me now show you how to use Gemini in Google Messages and start a chat. Just follow these straightforward steps:

  1. Launch the Google Messages app on your compatible Pixel phone.
  2. Locate chat with Gemini and tap it. Alternatively, navigate to the ‘Start chat’ section and select ‘Gemini’.
  3. For first-time users, follow any on-screen instructions provided by the app.
  4. Craft your question or prompt for Gemini. If you’re new to interacting with Gemini, explore the suggested conversation starters displayed above the message field for inspiration.
  5. (Optional) To enhance your prompt with visual context, tap the ‘Show attach media screen’ icon and choose an image.
  6. Finally, tap the ‘Send message’ button to initiate your interaction with Gemini.

Note: It is crucial to remember that conversations conducted with Gemini within Google Messages do not benefit from end-to-end encryption. This implies that the content of your interactions might be accessible to third parties.

Having said that, the launch of Gemini within Google Messages promises to transform how we engage with messaging app. I believe Google is going big with Gemini, and it might fully replace Google Assistant in our lives sooner than many of us anticipated.
