How to change screen resolution on Google Pixel phones

Preserving battery life on a phone is a constant concern for people like me, especially when away from charging options. Fortunately, Google Pixel phones offer various features to maximize battery lifespan. While familiar power-saving techniques like reducing screen brightness and enabling Battery Saver are widely known, there’s an additional, potentially impactful option hidden within the settings – the ability to change screen resolution.

The ability to change screen resolution isn’t available on all Google Pixel phones. Currently, only the Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel 6 Pro offer this feature. If you own one of these models, you can potentially benefit from this battery-saving technique. Just follow these steps:

1. Open the Settings app on your Pixel phone.



2. Scroll down and tap on ‘Display.’



3. Within the Display menu, locate and tap on ‘Screen resolution.’



4. You will likely see that your display is currently set to ‘Full resolution’ by default. This represents the highest resolution your phone’s screen can offer.



5. To reduce the resolution and potentially improve battery life, tap on ‘High resolution.’ This will typically switch your display to Full HD (FHD) resolution, offering a good balance between visual quality and battery efficiency.

While switching to a lower resolution might result in a slight decrease in sharpness, the difference on a smaller phone screen may not be overly noticeable. In most cases, the trade-off between slightly less crisp visuals and significantly improved battery life is a worthwhile one, especially in situations where extending battery life is crucial.
