The early access to Bethesda’s highly anticipated Sci-Fi RPG Starfield is finally out. But it seems the game doesn’t include one important feature — ultrawide (32:9 aspect ratio) support.

Various players have submitted their queries on social media platforms, shedding light on the issue.

Starfield lack ultrawide support

I’m not seeing any 5120×1440 32:9 resolutions for the game. Kind of disappointing. Unless I’m a goof and missing a setting somewhere. Which is also possible. (Source)

I cannot for the life of me find out how to get the game to fill out my 32:9 monitor. There is a 21:9 option in the window size settings but nothing for 32:9. The game will fill out your screen in borderless windowed mode but it puts up black bars once you go past 21:9. Also there doesn’t seem to be a exclusive fullscreen mode? (Source)

During Bethesda’s E3 presentation in 2018, Starfield was announced for the very first time. It was revealed that the title had been under development for 29 years.

In the presentation, Bethesda made significant promises, describing Starfield as ‘Skyrim in space,’ with vast spaces to explore and in-depth characters.

Among these promises was the commitment to support a 32:9 aspect ratio. It presented players with the option to use high-fidelity OLED monitors to enhance visual immersion.

However, as early access became available, some players reported (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) that this visual feature wasn’t present in the game.

How to fix the lack of ultrawide support in Starfield?

To address the lack of ultrawide support in Starfield, players have proposed their own fixes.

One player suggested using a Hex editor to make the game run on ultrawide screens (32:9 aspect ratio). To do this:

Download this hex editor – imhex (click on “imhex-1.30.1-windows-portable-x86_64.zip” at the bottom of the page)

Open it and drag&drop Starfield.exe file into imhex
Ctrl + F -> Hex tab -> Paste 8E E3 18 40 -> click on search icon (next to input). It will automatically select found values.

Copy this 39 8E 63 40 and paste into imhex. It will replace old values. After replacement, it should look like this.

Ctrl + S

Close editor (without saving project)

Star game as usual (Source)

Apart from these player-proposed solutions, there hasn’t been any official acknowledgment or fix for the issue.

We will monitor the situation and provide updates if there are any further developments.
