Starfield is a highly anticipated space-faring RPG recently announced by Bethesda Game Studios. However, as with many modern games, the launch came with its fair share of bugs and issues.

For instance, we previously highlighted how the ‘Groundpounder’ mission got bugged. We even came across an issue where the save files stopped working or loading.

Sadly this time, players are reporting that while loading the save files, their game crashes. It appears that the latest update, while attempting to address various concerns, unintentionally introduced this problem (1,2,3,4,5,6).

@StarfieldGame just downloaded the update for Starfield on the Xbox game pass for PC. When I try and load the game it gets to the main title screen then hard closes. Any updates if this has been reported as a bug?

Was hoping today’s update would fix these crashes. But there’s no difference as far as I can tell. Just crashed on a loading screen and got 2 crashes when opening menu to quicksave.

This bug has seemingly left players feeling frustrated and stuck in a limbo, unable to continue their adventures. Loading save files only takes them to the Home Screen (1,2,3,4).

Even though the hotfix clearly mentions that it includes various ‘improvements to reduce crashes’, but that is clearly not the case. Resultantly, players are met with frequent crashes, prompting them to restart again and again.

Potential workarounds

Fortunately, we have come across a potential fix that can help with the crashing issues in Starfield. It involves installing the updated version of the DLSS mod.
