Stack Overflow is one of the largest question-and-answer websites for programmers as well as professionals. Millions of people use the service to find answers that most concern programmers.

Developed as an alternative to Experts-Exchange, it was bought by Prosus in June last year for $1.8 billion. It is available in five languages including English, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese.

As of March 2021, it had more than 14 million registered users with more than 21 million questions posted.

And just in case you’re trying to get your head around why Stack Overflow isn’t working for you, find solace in the fact that you aren’t the only one facing issues lately.

A quick look at the micro-blogging site Twitter conveys there are many others affected by the same issue. As per reports, while some say the service isn’t working or broken for them, others say it throws an error or notification stating ‘Stack Overflow is currently offline for maintenance’.

Below are some of the reports shared by Stack Overflow users who are unable to use the platform.

Down detector – a popular service that gives information about live outages – also conveys that Stack Overflow is down or not working in some regions.

Any official word on the matter? Negative, as yet. We’re yet to locate a word from the official service channels or their social media handles. Even the Stack Exchange Network Status page doesn’t convey any known issue with the service.

We hope the developers bring the website back online since millions of professionals use it to find answers to new and some frequently asked questions.

04:09 pm (IST): This issue now seems to have been resolved as the number of reports on Twitter and Downdetector have suddenly dropped.

10:09 am (IST): Stack Overflow users report that the website is currently down or unavailable (1, 2, 3). Apparently everything is due to a maintenance that they were not aware of.

12:20 pm (IST): The latest reported outage has been fixed.
