Several Spotify users on desktop have lately been facing an issue where pressing the back button keeps restarting the playlist.

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), multiple Spotify users have been experiencing difficulties while playing tracks from their playlists ever since the (Windows (64 Bit) 1.2.17.834.g26ee1129) update for the desktop app.

They argue that the app doesn’t remember their position in the playlist. In addition to this, pressing the back button consistently takes them back to the beginning of the playlist.

Notably, users are experiencing a similar issue on the web player as well. They are also unhappy, as Spotify has allegedly made the app even more useless with the latest update.

People claim that the old app could remember the position they last scrolled to in a playlist without any problem. But with the recent updates, the app only remembers it if you used the back or forward button.

And sadly, the client fails to keep track of the position in larger playlists after the latest update. Some people contend that the feature now only works for playlists that contain up to 200 songs.

This is undeniably bad news for those who have to scroll through hundreds or thousands of tracks in their playlists just to be able to play the desired song.

This recent update is annoying for me as I often go through playlists and decide to check out the artist or album of the song I’m listening to, therefore playing something that is outside the playlist. With this change I can no longer click back and continue listening through long playlists.

Users have also observed instances where the app forgets the playlist position if you view a song’s lyrics.

One of those affected says that they can no longer browse through multiple playlists or explore different albums simultaneously.

They have also remarked that the app returns them to the previous location if they click on the album cover in the bottom left corner.

I just noticed today that playlist position will also be lost if you chose to view song lyrics. Clicking the lyrics button to view lyrics and then clicking it again to close the lyrics will lose your position.
