Spotify being one of the most used music streaming services across the globe is available on numerous platforms that include Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS, and Android devices.

However, many Spotify users have been facing an issue which is preventing them from streaming music properly.

As per several recent reports, Spotify users across different platforms are getting the ‘Can’t play current song’ error message.

It is unclear what the exact cause of this problem is, but it can be fixed by restarting Spotify, however, only for it to occur again.

This seems to be inconveniencing Windows and macOS users but it is possible that other platforms might be affected too.

This is why spotify has been dying since yesterday while listening to the song? It says “can’t play the current song”:(

How comes that the @Spotify app for Mac Desktop is sooooo bad? It keeps saying “Can’t play the current song” and I have to quit and restart the damn thing (haven’t found a good solve in the many threads that have the same issue). It’s stupid.

Come on Spotify, sort this out.

While some reports of this issue are quite recent, it is not exactly a new problem and has been troubling users for quite some time.

According to a Spotify Community thread, Mac users have been experiencing the ‘Can’t play current song’ error since July 2020. Also, the issue was marked as ‘Under investigation’ in August 2020.

The latest update from a Spotify Moderator was made in May 2021 where it was mentioned that the issue was still being looked into.

All this clearly indicates that the music streaming giant has been unable to resolve this problem for over a year now.

Moreover, there is currently no workaround to stop the ‘Can’t play current song’ error message on Spotify.

All in all, the aforementioned issue has been spoiling the user experience for quite some time and needs to be fixed once and for all.

Hopefully, Spotify takes a serious look into this issue and resolves it for good so that listeners can enjoy content without any hassle.

That said, we will report back with more details as and when we get new information to share so stay tuned.
