Splatoon 3 Version 5.1.0: Will it make or break the game?

The beloved multiplayer Nintendo game Splatoon 3 recently released version 5.1.0. In this new update, various fresh changes and fixes will be issued. The loyal fanbase of the game is concerned that these new changes could either improve the game or ruin it. 

Splatoon is one of the most successful multiplayer gaming franchises for Nintendo. Back in 2022, Splatoon 3 won the award for ‘The Best Multiplayer Game’ at ‘The Game Awards’. While the third installment of the franchise is still going strong, the developers have decided to update the experience with their latest. But will this change be a positive one or a big failure?

According to the patch notes, the Splatoon 3 Version 5.1.0 update focuses on adding special Splatfest data and making tweaks to multiplayer. It includes modifications to certain main weapons and sub-weapons and changes to the terrain in Mahi-Mahi Resort in all modes. 

The update also makes it easier to utilize the strengths of some main weapons and increases the options for other main weapons that fulfill similar roles. Additionally, the new patches makes it easier to battle with main weapons that are paired with Curling Bombs. The Killer Wail 5.1 has been adjusted to deal less damage, and the Kraken Royale has been adjusted to give players additional options outside of a charge attack.

It adds special Splatfest data for Splatoween and makes multiplayer tweaks. The Mahi-Mahi Resort has been changed in all modes. With many detailed changes to certain weapons and their mechanics, many are concerned that it could ruin their play style. Due to these changes, some players will enjoy a potential buff to their main weapon, while others will be disappointed by the nerfs. 

Players who main melee or non-shooter weapons are the most concerned. Non shooter weapons were already very limited in the original version of the game, but with the new update and with it’s buffs to the shooter class weapons, things are getting a lot more harder for the melee players. I have seen many posts on X, where non-shooter players are complaining about the unfair changes and how the developers are allegedly trying to ruin the weapon variety in the game.

The update was released on October 17, 2023, and the next one is planned for mid-November to add support for the upcoming Deep Cut amiibo. As for whether the update will improve or ruin the game, it is difficult to say as it depends on individual preferences and playstyles.

However, the changes seem to be focused on improving the gameplay experience and addressing some issues, so it is likely that the update will have very mixed reactions from the players. It is always a good idea to try out by yourself and form your own opinion.
