Sony released the Xperia 10 II back in May with Android 10 out-of-the-box. The OEM is known for its smooth and light UI which is why people get inclined towards its devices. While regular users mostly go for good UX and UI, there are those who like to do a bit more with their devices.

Well, Sony is now allowing Xperia 10 II users to unlock their device’s bootloader. So, if you are into modding and custom ROMs, let’s take a look at how you can unlock your Sony Xperia 10 II.

Step 1

First of all, Sony has listed the Xperia 10 II incorrectly as “Xperia X10 II” on their Unlock Bootloader page. So, you’ll find the device somewhere in the middle of the list. After that it’s pretty much a smooth process.

After selecting the device, the following steps to unlock the bootloader will appear.

1. Go into Settings > About phone and tap seven times on Build number to enable developer options.
2. From Settings, go into Developer options and enable OEM unlocking. To do this, make sure your device is updated to the latest software.

The OEM warns users that the device protection features will not work if OEM unlocking is enabled. Also, only certain software builds allow the bootloader to be unlocked. So, to check whether your device can be unlocked follow the steps given bellow.

1. In your device, open the dialer and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.
2. Tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.

Once you’ve ensured that your device can be unlocked, proceed with the following steps.

Step 2

  • Enter the IMEI, IDID or MEID in the given field.
  • Check the “I acknowledge that I may void the warranty of my device by unlocking the bootloader” and “I acknowledge that, if Sony does perform any warranty repairs, Sony may charge a service fee for additional costs associated with the modified software” boxes.
  • Click on the “Submit” button below.

Note: You can also check the “Yes, I want to subscribe to the newsletter!” box if you are interested. Also, provide IMEI 1 if you have a dual SIM device.

After this, an unlock code will be generated for your device so save it as it will be required in the next step.

Step 3

  • Download and install the SDK-Platform Tools and Google USB driver for Windows, Mac, or Linux.
  • Make sure that USB debugging under Developer Options is enabled on your device.
  • Switch off the device and connect it to the PC via a USB cable while holding the Volume up key to enter the fastboot mode.
  • Open the command prompt from the Platform tools folder and type fastboot devices. Hit “Enter” on the keyboard. A device code will appear if your device gets detected.
  • Type fastboot oem unlock 0x<Unlock Code>. Copy and paste the unlock code that you received earlier in angle brackets and hit “Enter” on the keyboard.
  • You’ll get a response that your device is unlocked.

Note: If you get any errors, make sure that Google USB driver is properly installed on your device and also ensure that the device is in fastboot mode.

That’s it! You’ve successfully unlocked your Sony Xperia 10 II. You can now go ahead and install a custom ROM of your choice on the device. Happy Modding!
