Plex Media Server, the well-known application that allows you to convert compatible devices into a complete multimedia center, is having an issue with Sonos speakers.

Plex Media Server is one of the most popular services. This is because it is packed with many useful features and is compatible with the most popular operating systems. In addition, it can be integrated with smart speakers.

Sonos speakers aren’t working well with Plex

Sonos smart speakers are among the devices that enjoy integration with Plex. However, it seems that things are not working as they should lately.

Throughout the Sonos support forums, many users are reporting an annoying bug that does not allow them to use the search into their Plex music library.

User reports indicate that while trying to access Plex music library through the Sonos search tool, users get a “unable to browse music” message.

According to the same user reports, it is suspected that the problem has nothing to do with Plex Media Server. In this case, all the blame would fall on the Sonos side.

There’s a chance that some Sonos software developer might have missed an incorrect line of code. This is what would be causing the inability to communicate with Plex using the search tool.

It should be noted that, in the current situation, Sonos speakers have access to the albums already added thanks to the “Recently Added” option. However, while using the search tool, it is not able to find anything.

Basically, users can keep playing some of the songs that they have played before. But, they cannot search for a specific song or album.

To further confirm that the problem is Sonos’ fault, users report that they have no problem using Plexamp (a Plex music player).

This had happened before

This is not the first time that Sonos users have experienced a similar situation. There are reports from 2018 where you can see complaints about the same problem.

Sonos is allegedly working on a fix for the issue with Plex

Among those affected by the problem we can see that one contacted Sonos and got a response. The report points out that they are already aware of the situation and are allegedly working on a fix.

Anyway, the company has not yet officially pronounced. For now, users can only wait for Sonos to send out a fix for the issue with Plex. However, they have not offered information on a date for the fix.
