Southwest recently introduced a Companion Pass under its Rapid Rewards program. It is one of the most useful advantages that lets users choose one travel companion without paying any airline expenses for them.
This pass can be earned by either completing 100 qualifying one-way flights or by accumulating 125,000 points within a calendar year.
Southwest Airlines users unable to add companion
However, some Southwest Airlines users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) are running into an issue where the website continues returning errors whenever they try to add a companion pass to an upcoming flight.
@SouthwestAir I’m trying to book a companion pass and I keep getting error messages. I know this is a bad time but if someone could help I’d appreciate it.

Instead of actually adding a companion to the promotional pass, it keeps users on hold for hours. Other times, it gives users a ‘No match found’ error message while trying to add a companion.
There are even cases where some users (1,2,3,4,5) are not receiving their companion pass altogether despite having met all the requirements.
Although the website is letting a bunch of users register their travel companions, it doesn’t complete the payment process to add them to the trip.
This is incredibly frustrating because the issue is making some people feel stranded and helpless as they are also unable to reach customer support.
Potential workarounds
We have come across workarounds that can help fix the issue temporarily. One of the affected users suggests canceling the original ticket in order to successfully book the companion pass.
While others say that the issue where some Southwest Airlines users are unable to add a companion can also be resolved by trying to add them after waiting for some time (1,2,3).
Hopefully, the team finds out the root cause of the issue and comes up with a permanent fix at the earliest.
We’ll keep tabs on the latest developments and update this article accordingly.
