Instagram, the renowned social media platform, has transformed the way we share moments, uncover inspiration, and connect with others via visual storytelling.

The company frequently introduces changes to the platform with the aim of enhancing the user experience. However, sometimes it may happen that some people end up not liking some of these modifications.

For instance, Instagram recently introduced a change where it no longer shows the exact date of publishing a post.

Instagram users slam removal of exact date of publishing from posts

And by looking at the reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), it appears that this change has not been well received by multiple Instagram users.

Instead of showing the exact date, the platform now displays the number of days or weeks that have gone by since a post was made. And as per the claims, this change has been introduced only on the mobile app.

Desktop users can still see the publishing date in the old format. However, they believe that it’s only a matter of time before this alteration is introduced here as well.

Those affected have even questioned the point of making such a change to the platform. They argue that the exact date provides valuable context, especially in cases where timeliness is significant.

It also helps them determine the freshness of the content and stay informed about the recency of updates from the accounts they follow.

Some even assert that they have never come across a single social media website that denotes post timing in weeks. And understandably, users have taken to web forums to express their frustration and disappointment.

It used to show the date, month and year a post was published. Now it’s “20 weeks ago”, “5 days ago” and it really bothers me. What is the reason for this change?

For god’s sake, they keep changing the algorithm. Now I can’t see when I posted my picture because it doesn’t show the exact dates.

It’s also worth noting that the platform has recently started displaying exact dates on highlights. Users are now requesting Instagram to revert the recent changes and display the post publishing date in the old format.
