Google Pixel devices have received their latest update for May 2023. The update was highly anticipated as it aimed to improve the performance, security, and overall user experience of the devices.

A fix for the issue occasionally causing lock screen UI elements to overlap with the home screen launcher interface is included in this patch.

Google Pixel devices bricked after May update

However, the update has caused a stir among some users who reported issues with their devices after installing the update (1,2,3).

According to reports, some Google Pixel users have experienced issues after installing the May update, with some devices becoming ‘bricked’ as a result.

The issue seems to have escalated in recent days, with numerous reports on social media and tech forums indicating that some Pixel devices are completely unusable after installing the update.

Some users have reported that their devices are stuck in a boot loop or won’t turn on at all, while others have encountered other problems that prevent them from accessing their device’s features and functions.

For those affected, the issue is understandably frustrating and disruptive. With no clear solution in sight, some users have resorted to seeking help from Google support.

There is also a case where several times a day users get an ‘xxx keeps stopping’ (xxx refers to any app name) until the phone becomes unusable and is only rectified by a reboot.

Issue escalated

A Google Diamond Product Expert has escalated this issue for further investigation. However, there is no ETA for a fix yet.

Unfortunately, there is no workaround at the moment. But we still hope that a fix for the issue where Google Pixel devices are reportedly bricked becomes available at the earliest.
