It appears that some Google Pixel 8 devices are affected by a serious display issue, as users are reporting different instances of touch registration problems. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time users are experiencing display-related issues on the latest Google Pixel phones. Several Pixel 8 Pro users have also reported getting screen bumps or bulges in the recent past.

Pixel 8 users reporting different touch registration issues

A handful of Google Pixel 8 users are facing a touch-related issue with their devices. The problem seems to revolve around touch registration, causing either inaccuracy or delays in response. For some users, the device fails to register touch at the bottom of the screen, just above the gesture bar. Users say that they have to tap multiple times to get the touch to properly register.

Meanwhile, others have reported touch failures specifically when tapping near the bottom center of the screen. In such cases, users were able to get a response by frantically tapping and swiping across the screen.

Interestingly, the problem persists regardless of whether users have installed touch screen protectors. However, activating the screen protector mode has reportedly offered some relief for a few users. Notably, some users encountered similar issues on older Pixel models, but they were resolved later by system updates.

Additionally, one user pointed out that their Pixel 8 did not pass the touchscreen diagnostic test, which further confirms that there’s indeed a touchscreen issue on some units. However, we haven’t encountered any problems with touch registration on our Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro devices.

Furthermore, some reported stuttering issues when they pull down the notification shade on the home screen. Fortunately, there’s a potential fix for this bug. If you’re also encountering such an issue on your Pixel 8 device, then turning off the ‘Window blur’ option in the developer’s settings can help you fix this bug.

Regrettably, Google hasn’t officially acknowledged this display issue as of now. However, we hope that these issues get resolved soon since they are hindering users from fully utilizing the advanced display capabilities offered by the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.
